Notifications and more important updates about our services!

Ceasing telemessaging

Our telemessaging (automated phone reminders) service will no longer be available from the 1st of July 2026.
If you have been receiving notifications about your library items via phone, please contact us to add your email address to your account.
Adding your email address will allow you to continue to receive notifications when your holds are ready, before items are due, when your items are overdue, and when your account is due to expire.

Another option is to download our library app to keep track of your items - more information on the library app can be found below.

Push notifications and updated app

Push notifications have arrived on the Dunedin Public Libraries app!

The May relaunch of the Library app saw a fresh new look, and improved access to books, audiobooks, eBooks, films, events, and library services in one place.

Now the app can send notifications to your mobile device. To set this up, open the app, tap on My Account, select Preferences (under Settings), toggle on the Library News and Loans & Reservations sliding buttons, and select Allow.

Method for toggling on notifications by going into my account, then preferences in the library app

You will get notifications when your holds are ready for pickup, when your items are due, and when there is important library news or service disruptions. Notifications will pop up on your device, and you can also view them within the app by tapping the bell icon.

The free app is free is available for download from Google Play or App Store (search “Dunedin Public Libraries”).

Library staff are available in-person and via email (library@dcc.govt.nz) or phone (03 474 3690) to assist with any app-related queries.

Hold pickup times

From the 1st of July 2026, the time you have to pick up your holds will be reduced from 10 days to 7 days. Make sure your email address is up to date and/or you have the Dunedin Public Libraries app installed to receive notifications when your holds are ready to pick up.

Remember, there is always the option to suspend your holds before they are ready for pickup, if you know you will be unavailable for a period of time. To do this, you can edit your holds under your account on the Dunedin Public Libraries website or app, come in and see us, or call us on 03 474 3690.

To suspend a hold in the app choose my account, reservations, then suspend reservation

Once you have selected 'Suspend Reservation' you can choose which date you would like to suspend your hold until.

Item renewals

From the 1st of July 2026, your items will only be able to be renewed one time (instead of the previous two). This is to get items circulating faster, so everyone can read or watch what they have their eye on sooner!
